Pair of very colourful cloisonne vases. Surrounded by stylized floral ornaments vase shows two different central landscape scenes on the front and on the back. In good condition: one tiny part in the center of one landscape has been restored.
Cloisonne is a French term and means "enclosed in a cell". This decorative technique in which a cell pattern made up of bent strips of metals, in order to separate different colored fields of enamel, soldered to the metal base of the vessel, is filled with enamels. Firing melts the soft glass paste (enamel) and fuses it to the metal.
