Her style reflects the coloring in earth tones and shows her broad and deep knowledge of Indian mythology and customs. The artist spent her childhood on Bainbridge Island, Washington, and is thinking of herself as a bridge between Native American and Japanese cultures. Mickelson studied art at the University of Washington, majoring in ceramic arts.
