Gordon Coutts was born 1868 (Glasgow, Scotland) and died 1937 (Palm Springs, California). Born in Aberdeen, Scotland, Gordon Coutts is best known for desert landscape painting, especially of California. Coutts started his studies in Glasgow and continued in London and Paris. He spent several years in Melbourne, Australia. He was instructor to the Art Society of New South Wales, Sydney from 1896-99. Afterwards he returned to Europe until circa 1914, when he moved to Tangiers and later Palm Springs (c. 1925).
