Victorian Paper Mache Tilt-Top Table. Between 1840 - 1860
This tilt-top table has an oval papier mache top with scalloped edges and various shaped mother-of-pearl inlay for the border. Inside this border in the center are inlaid mother-of-pearl pieces being the highlights of the hand painted floral bouquet, depicting different types of flowers: a passion flower, a mum, white and red roses. The ebonized wood stem in baluster shape is also painted at the bottom and ends in a painted papier mache base on three cast iron feet which are resembling duck feet. Diameter of base given below:
